This is the perfect topic for me to discuss as I’m a mother who adores shopping for children’s clothing.  Many times before a session, the mom and I will have a discussion on what her goals are for the session and then I guide her through the process to select the perfect clothing choice, without being too coordinated – otherwise referred to as matchy matchy.  The visual in your head for matchy matchy would be everyone in a white shirt.  When like colors do work well are in Newborn Sessions where the parents want to blend in with the perfection of a babies skin.  That’s where all black for the parents would blend everything together and then the baby is the focus.  You want your clothing to express your style and personality so it can transcend to your photographs.  Families look absolutely beautiful in coordinated colors and dark shades of brown, black, etc.  Warm colors thrown in there with blues, or a pop of color just make everything look real, authentic and like your family would normally dress…only organically matched.
