Family Photography in Columbia, SC

I knew immediately when I began talking with this Mom that she “truly’ knew what she was looking for upon hiring me.  Her kindness, excitement and genuine love for her family completely reminded me what everything I do is all about.  Once our conversation ended, I knew that our session was going to be incredible because our goals were united.  And, these are just a few of the emotional captures we got from the day.

Fall in Bloom – Columbia, SC Baby Photographer

One thing that continues to motivate me and remind me of why I’m in this business to begin with, is the opportunity of working with existing client families with the addition of a new child or to update their family photography portfolio.

I’ve enjoyed working with this family for the last couple years and now their family is complete with the addition of sweet Miss A.  They’re now a family of four and I couldn’t be more proud to be part of it all.

 P.S. – Lovin’ the Fall Colors for the photography backdrop.

Sisterly Love – Columbia, SC Children’s Photographer

 These girls really have my heart!  Each time we get together for our photography session, they know exactly how to kick-start the event – with fun, excitement & the ever-so-lovely ALL GIRL delivery, lol!  And, that’s what makes our time so fun & unique.

Enjoy a sneak peek of “the girls”.

Family Photography Session in Columbia, SC

Sometimes you meet people that you instantly connect with and can share experiences with, likes / dislikes, children & mommy conversation…and, these people were those people.  Warm, caring & incredibly full of love towards their son…and, downright beautiful.  All three of them:)

Recent HS Senior

When the mother of this HS Senior asked me to photograph her daughter I was honored; especially since she teaches at my daughter’s school.  We talked over the phone and gathered ideas for our session and I found that mom’s main objective was for me to capture images of her daughter that expressed her unique gifts and talents (which are quite a few I must say).  She’s the Valedictorian.  Rides a horse named Romeo.  Plays the guitar.  Is beautiful.   And, so on it goes…

I feel these images truly expressed how incredibly talented this young lady is.  Look out world.  Cause here she comes!

New for 2011 – What are the best ages of children to invest in Custom Photography?

This question is one that still intriques me as a parent.  Because daily, the dynamic changes from baby to child and child to teen.  Yet, we’re not going to invest in custom children and family portraiture for every stage of life, unless you just have an unlimited bank account and wall-space for all those portraits, lol:)  So…..today I’m going to give my personal opinion on the subject matter.  If you’re like me, you cherish the photographs of your children and you want to be able to reflect on their lives, without missing a beat, and without breaking the bank.

Birth:  0 – 18 months {This is one of the hardest photo stages of all to me b/c one minute they’re a squishy newborn and the next they’re a baby and then they’re a little one.  I definitely recommend newborn photos within the first 2 weeks of birth because how quickly that little squishy newborn turns into one tiny little baby & you can’t seem to remember how they looked as that newborn.  Capturing your newborn in their ‘newborn’ state is probably the best investment of photography you will ever make.  You’ll sit and wonder for the rest of your life how your newborn looked once you’re sitting and chatting with your 10 year old.  And, without those images to reflect on, you won’t have anything to see for yourself, or to show your child how that looked at that very moment.}

Little One: 1-3 years old {Of course you don’t have to invest in a photographer for each of these years.  Once you have little one in a photo from baby to sitting up, I’d then wait and have a session done once they’re 2 or 3 years old.  Your sure to snap photos of your kiddo all the time, so you’ll have those shots that you’ll want to include in the photobook.  But, for your wall, little ones take some really gorgeous photos between 2 and 3 years old.  I still have a close up gallery-wrapped canvas of my daughter from age 2 in our home and it still melts every single person’s heart that walks through our door…not to mention mine every single day.  Because what you’ll see at that age is that they have an innocent smile to capture with no more awkward sitting / posing required.  This creates the most incredible work of art for your home.  Even when your child is 5, 10, 15.  Their eyes are the same.  Yes, their hair, clothing & expressions may have changed, but those eyes reveal the soul to your child and this is why I sincerely recommend investing in a portrait at this age.  I can’t tell you how warm it makes me feel everytime I look at my daughter’s portrait from this age.}

Age 5

and then about every other year or so.

Some of you reading this may think that I prefer babies, toddlers, preschoolers for photographs.  That’s not true in terms of me taking pictures, but it is true in terms of when you’re starting a family & what images you’ll want to keep forever.  How many times do you think a mom of a 16 year old thinks about that child as an infant.  It’s a lot.  And, being able to see those images makes everything warm in a home for the family.

I love this photograph of my daughter.  It was taken over a year ago and of course she’s changed dramatically from when this image was taken.  However, I’m just now ordering a portrait for her wall of this shot because I haven’t seen this look AT ALL since she was 4.  And I want to be reminded of it…daily.

Hope this helps!

Home from many places {Columbia, SC Family Photographer}

A while back I started conversing with the youngest sibling in the P Family.  She’s in California, her sister is in Arizona, and if my memory serves me well, her brother, sister-in-law and niece are new residents of Alabama.  Why are they here, you ask?  Their parents are new residents of the lovely Columbia, South Carolina.  Just in time for Christmas.

We all met up at the Horseshoe in Downtown Columbia on a brisk, winter’s day.  And, lucky for us, the sun was bright and shiny…giving us that much needed warmth ever-so-often:)  We made sure to capture moment’s of all the family together and then some of each individual family – but, I have to say that Miss M definitely reigns as Queen.

Here’s one of my favorite images.

Meeting up with these precious girls was such a blessing:)  They were oh so sweet, and, oh so beautiful.  The girls seemed to have an awesome time playing with the leaves, running and jumping and I was just hanging out trying to keep up:)  Here’s a quick sneak peak from the session for the sweet family!

Enjoy!

Sweet Southern Children {Columbia, SC Children’s Photographer}

I was so excited when I first met up with these adorable siblings.  The big sister was soooo smart and her little brother just melted like butter in her hands.  All I had to do was call on her for assistance and he did whatever she said.  What a precious little Mini Mommy she is:)

We started by letting the children hold hands walking through the park and the next thing you know we started playing and I was ready to squat, check settings & shoot.  Occasionally, I’d skip to my lou, too.  For the most part I tried to hold on to my camera and enjoy it all.  I could play and take photos of children for hours.

Thank you H Family for such a wonderful day!  Hope your Holidays are Merry and Bright:)
