What’s Going on with Amy McWatty Photography, Columbia, SC

I can already plan my New Year’s Resolution NOW…drum roll, please:)  I need to update my blog more regularly.  And, that’s a fact for sure!!!  The positive side to all of this is that I’ve been busy busy.  Amidst all the changes in our family, I have to say that I’m still in an adjustment period, but, I know in all-too-short of time, I’ll be right in the swing with the new way of life – photography & mommy mode:)  Two great combinations.

For years now, I’ve been in marketing full-time, while doing my photography passion on the side.  I have to admit that I loved my marketing career,  but life just got a bit too hectic with work, hobby, family, church, school, etc – that I gave a big ‘Adios’ to the marketing gig.  I’m certain I’ll miss my paycheck and extra spending, but the amount of time I hope to gain raising our daughter should well make up for it.

Cheers to everyone & Happy Friday in 2 more hours:)

Kid’s Stuff

I remember my first blog all about ‘mommy & kids stuff’.  I truly don’t know why I ever stopped writing about my mommy loves. Below was what it might have been like.  Only in short form:)  I’ve really been missing out -    talking about the latest clothing or skincare / product find for kids…so, I think I’ll start writing about that again, while posting my photography.

(1) This one is my all time FAV.  Still using it at 5 years old because I refuse to abuse her skin:)

(2) Sunscreens – Check out the two below.  I have to thank my cousin, Lins for the Alba recommendation.  Cheaper, than the one  below that I’ve been using since my daughter’s birth.  California Baby… has never irritated my daughter’s eyes, so I’m sold on this one:)

Mother’s Day Photography 2011

Sometimes the last person in the family that gets photographed is the Mother.  And, yes sometimes she is in the photograph, but less time is spent around the interaction between her and her child / children.  Mother’s Day Gifts specifically target the mother who delights in her children and wishes to capture time spent with them to cherish forever.  Many of my favorite images are those that express the bond between mother and child…as it’s like nothing else in the world!  If you’re interested, I’m doing a Special where you can purchase a gift certificate exclusive to Mother and up to 4 children that includes 1 – 2 hours of custom photography, editing and slideshow viewing.  Plus, you’ll receive a family 8 x 10 and DVD of high-resolution images for only $300.  Gift certificates available for purchase thru Mother’s Day and valid until 12/31/11.

Here’s a sample of our pretty gift certificates:)

The Weather Outside is Rainy

But, these clothes are so amazing…and since there’s no sun outside.  Hope for Spring, hope for Spring, hope for Spring.

Shabby Apple clothing is so amazing & I adore their Kids line.  And, since there isn’t any sun or warmth for pictures outside, I’m daydreaming about Spring and fantastic ideas for photo shoots.  Wouldn’t this outfit be perfect?

Love of Life [Columbia, SC Photographer]

Have you ever sat in silence thinking of what’s going on around you?  My daughter’s sound asleep and I don’t get many moments like these, so I’m basking in it.  But, the silence doesn’t feel that warm to me.  Because when I stop and unwind, I begin to think about what’s going on in the world…and, all I can see in the background are images of our children.  If Haiti had been the US would we had responded the same?  Or are we just a product of selfishness and greed.  It’s definitely something to think about.  No matter where you stand politically, the situation in Haiti is beyond heart wrenching.  I was chatting with a friend earlier today and we were trying to come up with the words to describe what’s going on over there and we came up with words like, pitiful, sad, heart wrenching, devastating, and many others.  Yet, none of them seemed to describe the emotion we felt in our hearts, nor the sadness of those children left without a family, or loved ones who don’t know whether their people are alive or dead.

Choose to pull a little bit out of the coffee money, or whatever you splurge on each week.  For me, it’s clothes.  And NO it’s not clothes for ME!  It’s clothes for my daughter.  I almost cried last night as I was going through her closet to donate clothing my daughter’s outgrown, just thinking about the thousands of innocent, pure and loving children of Haiti, without a family, without clothing, yet still full of hope.

Here are several places you can give a gift of love to these precious people.

American Red Cross and designate Haiti Relief and Development

Doctors without Borders

World Vision

Max Lucado’s Message for Haiti Fundraising Efforts (Because I thought his perspective is much more representative of the Christian faith and this situation).
