One Year Old Session in Columbia, SC

I’ve been waiting to upload photos of this precious angel that just turned 1 in 2012!  Her Mommy wanted her birthday invitations and photographs to be a surprise, so I waited to post her sweet picture.  Happy Birthday, Little Miss!  Boy how you’ve grown since your Newborn Session.

Little Boy Session in Columbia, SC

I had such a wonderful time working with this little one year old and his beautiful Mommy.  When I walked up to meet them both for the first time Little Man greeted me with the sweetest and most endearing smile.   All I could say when I met them was, “Awwww”.  Yes, I have a way with children and they normally like me because I act all crazy and silly; but, he didn’t know that about me yet, so I was incredibly smitten.  He had me at “Hello”…:)  He, his smile & the adorable little hat adorning his sweet little head.

We walked around the park and found a place to settle our things and then our fun-filled session began.  One of my favorite things to do when photographing Mothers with their children is to start out having them interact with their children while I take a back-seat and watch.  The child can get a feel for things, Mom can relax & not be overwhelmed in front of the camera, and I can usually capture some really memorable and authentic images of the Mother’s connection with her child.  Sometimes I’m not concerned whether or not my subject, i.e. Mom or child, is looking at the camera.  Part of the dynamic that I’m going for is the connection & a feeling so that when the Mom looks at the photograph hanging on her wall, or in a photo album on her coffee table, she remembers how she felt at this very moment, or what she felt for her child when he was a certain age.  One of my all-time favorite images of me with my daughter is one where I’m not looking at the camera at all.  I’m looking at my daughter and taking her in.  The feeling I have when I look at that image is unspeakable joy b/c of how it makes me feel.  That is what I hope to convey in these images for this Mother.

E-Session in Downtown Columbia, SC

Prior to our session, Tashima and I met for lunch to talk about how she and her fiancé met and how we could best capture their love for one another in a real, authentic way – without having to stage them or put them in poses that they wouldn’t normally do.  What I got from our conversations was that she really wanted something from our session that would show them talking, interacting, hugging, holding hands, and, just being them.  I left our lunch date and came up with several ideas and texted and chatted back and forth with Tashima to get her thoughts.  She was so open and warm to ideas which made for a fantastic photo session several days later.  The photo session started with tons of wind.  And, that’s putting it mildly, haha!  My reflector was flying all around & I almost was blown off a chair.  We were patient and the wind calmed down just enough for us.  Just enough to get that bit of wind through her hair to capture movement & emotion.

Such big, loving hugs these two gave each other.  Along with the soft touch of the hand and glance from the peripheral.  Calm, warm and genuine.  That’s how I’d describe their love and affection for each other.  Here’s what I’m talking about.  Aren’t they gorgeous?

Thanks for viewing:)

Fun with my girl

After school we did our normal routine, only we stopped and got an ice cream and then headed out to splash our feet in the water and celebrate the 80 degree weather in Columbia.  Here are some fun-filled photos of my daughter from yesterday.  Enjoy & Be Blessed!

New Little Man – Columbia, SC Newborn Photography

When I arrived at the location for this newborn session I was greeted with such a wonderful scent & something from Yankee Candle (I believe).   The house seemed so warm as I was greeted by Mom and the ever-so-adorable Mr. D.  I didn’t hear a peep out of him until I started moving him around a bit while taking photographs; and, even then, he made barely a wimper.  I looked around the house for the best lighting and ended up in the kitchen because of the low-light areas throughout the rest of the house.  Thankfully, the family was patient with me as I was right amidst the high-traffic kitchen area.

When photographing newborns I try my best to capture them authentically without forcing a particular pose on them.  Some parents love the posed images and others do not, so I try to take all of that into account when documenting their precious miracle.  Baby D wasn’t a tummy baby at all and preferred being on his back, so I waited and tried the belly position when sleeping and it wasn’t comfortable for him, so I didn’t worry about it because the Newborn Photographs should capture the baby as they are naturally.

Enjoy Viewing Little D!
