this is what you get

When you let your child be themself for a while during the photo session, you’re sure to get one of the most amazing smiles ever (like below)…not forced, not asked for; but the one that you get when you least expect it and it just feels so awesome when you get it:)

Mother & Photographer Perspective

How many times have we stood in front of our children asking them to pose & say ‘cheese’ and the like?  I know it’s 1 too many times if you’re like me:)  I decided to post this photograph up of my daughter so that you could experience with me the importance of capturing our children exactly how they are at different stages in their life.  Believe me, when my daughter’s entering college, I’ll be more appreciative to relish in her ‘true’ personality from days past than ones that were forced by me or others.   One of the reasons I love children’s photography so much is that when I was a little girl (until middle school & high school) I was a serious, serious kid.  All I would do was give the photographers these stern expressions and they’d try and try to no avail.  Fortunately, my mother was fond of capturing me just as I was and didn’t force it.  That’s what I’d recommend to other mom’s out there b/c look at what you might have missed if you were forcing smiles.  That look of my daughter above is one she does like she’s looking inside of your soul:)  I’m so glad I caught this b/c it’s an expression I never want to forget…because smiles are a dime a dozen.

best in the world

Carolina Girls, that is!  And, this photograph reminds me of the best of times with us Carolina Girls.  Soon she’ll be learning to do the shag, but for now, she looks like she has it all under control with her cute expression and little curtsey:)

little boy edit from session

This little guy and his mother were the most precious, ever!  We had our session earlier this summer and we’re reviewing photographs right now for our order.  The mom sent me a message asking if she could see a particular photograph in color (because I had only shown it in B&W).

Anyway…..When I first reviewed this image it showed up in my ‘head’ as a B&W photo.  But, WOW! Is the reaction I now have of the image in color.

Thanks Mama B.  You did good!

favorite little girl

I have to admit it.  She melts my heart:)  Everything about Miss E just makes me happy.  That’s probably because she let’s me hold her and twirl her and love on her to pieces.  But, SHHHH…that’s our secret.

Here’s one of my favorites from recent.

whole foods and exercise

So, the days of me being able to eat whatever I want (like chips and salsa and mexican food in abundance) have long passed by.  I’ve been disappointed so many times in the last few months either trying on a bathing suit, and especially seeing myself in shorts.  This might all sound vain.  I can tell you that it really isn’t.  I started not having much energy and just the thought of staying up til 9 pm about killed me.  So, I thought…what’s wrong with me?

I ached and moaned and groaned about it.  All to the tune of about 20 plus pounds of additional weight that I had put on.  Since having my daughter I basically kept eating the way I wanted and didn’t bother to exercise.  The day came where enough was enough.  I remember thinking how active I used to be and wondering what had happened to me.

I talked to one of my clients from my marketing job who has become one of my personal friends.  He told me about how he lost 60+ pounds by changing his eating habits and eating a balanced diet.  That seemed to be what everybody said, but I began to ask myself, “What is a balanced diet?”  He gave me the name of his trainer and nutritionist and that day I must have looked at the name and number in front of me a thousand times.  The thought of having a guy train me was just about enough to keep me from doing it.  So, I let my pride go!  Fortunately I found a woman to help me and since then I’ve been sweating my behind off!  Well, not literally:)  I have been sweating, though.  My eating habits have changed after thinking about what I’m putting into my body before doing so, as well.  I’ve changed over to mostly organic foods and vegetables, using grain-fed meat and it’s definitely made a difference in how I feel.  I’m on my second week of it and supposedly this is the toughest week because your body is craving sugars, etc, but I’ve managed to control the beast for the most part.  I’ll keep you posted on Week 3.

I haven’t lost but 2 pounds.  But, I’m not discouraged because I’m starting to see the difference.  I just need to stick with it.

Just the Girls [Columbia, SC Family Photographer]

Recently I met up Downtown with these adorable girls and their charming mother.  We started off just chatting about girl stuff and the next thing you know we were laughing and carrying on.  That’s the kind of thing that I love to have happen, you know:)  And, it makes me grin inside when that carries over to the photographs.

I haven’t finished editing the photos from our session, but I wanted to post a quick sneak peak of the three girls together.  More to come soon.

With Love,

A

Photo Look [Columbia, SC Family Photographer]

I am so wanting to update my photo borders with my blog posts, but each one I look at are so contemporary and I can’t find one that fits my style.  So, I added the typical classic one to my last post, but, it still doesn’t work.   Now you know what’s going on just in case next time you stop in on my blog and the photos are all crazy and such:)

Little M [Columbia, SC Children's Photographer]

I begin this post thinking of how incredibly HOT it is in Columbia, SC right now.  If you live in these parts, you know we have practically no breeze, like our coastal sisters…yet equal to or greater than heat indexes:)  Now’s the time for you to mention that there’s no excuse for me to be 20 lbs overweight.  Especially since I live in such a sweat-induced climate.  Maybe I need to start exercising in it to see if that helps:)

Amidst the heat, I had the pleasure of working with Little M and his Mommy.  Our first session started around 9 am one morning and the heat started on us really, really fast.  Little M got sleepy and we all kept trying, but I knew that he just wanted to crash (bless his little heart).  We ended up rescheduling for the next day and then the monsoons started for a weekend like Columbia, nor I, have seen in quite some time.  When I say it rained, I mean it rained and poured from morning til night.  And, before you ask..YES, the children of Columbia town were going stir crazy.

One week later and magic!  Great weather.  Happy Little M.  And, Little M session complete.  Can’t wait for his Mommy to see them all.  Here’s a few to look over.
